This tool summarizes the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision’s Consultative Document on the treatment of cryptoassets regarding risk and capital. The document sets standards for how regulators should approach these by proposing different treatment based on whether the given cryptoasset meets certain classification conditions. The Basel Committee agrees on standards regarding capital internationally. This document is not binding by law, but member states such as the United States are generally expected to implement standards through domestic regulation.
