Sydney Menefee Named Deputy Comptroller and Chief Accountant

WASHINGTON— The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) today announced the selection of Sydney Menefee to be the agency’s next Deputy Comptroller and Chief Accountant.

In this role, Ms. Menefee will lead the OCC's efforts for bank accounting and financial reporting, providing accounting counsel to examiners, the banking industry, and the accounting profession. She will assume these duties upon Rusty Thompson’s retirement at the end of July.

“Sydney brings a wealth of experience and insight to this job,” said Senior Deputy Comptroller and Chief National Bank Examiner Grace Dailey. “The agency and the federal banking system are fortunate to be able to have someone of Sydney’s caliber in this important role.”

Ms. Menefee joined the OCC’s Office of the Chief Accountant (OCA) in August 2009 as a Professional Accounting Fellow and served in various roles in the OCA and Midsize Bank Supervision prior to becoming Deputy Chief Accountant in July 2015. She was commissioned as a National Bank Examiner in March 2016.

Prior to joining the OCC, Ms. Menefee worked at Ford Group Bank, a novel charter formed to purchase failed banks from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. She started her career with KPMG’s financial services practice in Dallas, Texas, after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of business administration and a masters in professional accounting. Sydney is a certified public accountant, licensed in Texas.
